The activities of high level strategic advisors of the Reform Committee of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine have a positive impact on the implementation of systemic changes in the security and defense sector of Ukraine. This was announced by Vice Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze during a meeting with Jill Sinclair, High Level Strategic Advisor from Canada.
The Vice Prime Minister expressed gratitude to Ms. Jill Sinclair for practical assistance in pursuing the defense reform and informed about the preparation of a number of strategic documents, such as the draft law of Ukraine on national security and the creation of the Anticorruption Court. Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze touched upon Ukraine's expectations of the next NATO summit which will be held on 11-12 July in Brussels: getting a clear political message of the Alliance support of Ukraine, maintaining an open door policy, and further hands-on assistance aimed to meet Ukraine's needs in defense and security sphere through NATO Trust Fund projects. A special emphasis was placed on the fact that the Ukrainian side is counting on the invitation to join the NATO’s Enhanced Opportunities Program, but it was also clearly emphasized that this could not be a substitute for the NATO Membership Action Plan.
The Vice Prime Minister informed the High Level Strategic Advisor about the new planned format of the NATO - Ukraine Annual National Programme for 2019.
In turn, Ms. Jill Sinclair stressed that strategic advisers pay a special attention to the preparation of the NATO summit in the context of Ukraine's participation in it. The formation of the key messages of the NATO member countries concerning Ukraine is one of the core objectives.
The strategic advisers were also proposed to engage in the process of promoting gender equality in order to increase the effectiveness of the implementation of the national action plan on this issue. The interlocutors agreed that issues of gender equality should be on the agenda of Ukraine-NATO cooperation.
