In the framework of intergovernmental Ukrainian-Polish consultations, as part of the delegation of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Ruslan Strilets held a bilateral meeting with Minister of Climate and Environment of Poland Paulina Hennig-Kloska and her team.
"Every day Ukraine suffers significant environmental damage caused by the russian war in Ukraine. That is why the support of our closest allies in our country's pursuit of justice and European integration is a crucial factor in confronting the global challenges of today, especially in the context of the current war," said Ruslan Strilets.
He thanked the Minister Paulina Hennig-Kloska for her support in gaining Poland's practical experience in implementing European law.
"We have agreed that humanity should learn lessons from all challenges and draw conclusions that are relevant to current issues. With this in mind, we agreed to intensify our joint work on creating unified methods for calculating war damage," said Ruslan Strilets.
Among the key topics Ruslan Strilets discussed with Paulina Hennig-Kloska were:
- Poland's accession to the Environmental Declaration, which was presented in October 2023;
- strengthening cooperation between Ukraine and Poland under Point 8 of the Peace Formula;
- reaching an agreement to conclude an Intergovernmental Agreement on the implementation of the Espoo Convention in the near future.
According to Ruslan Strilets, this will become a solid basis for preventing, reducing and controlling harmful transboundary environmental impacts from planned activities and will ensure that they are carried out in accordance with European standards.
