Society must learn to use the planet's resources wisely, to preserve them, inspiring new generations to progress with sustainable development. Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal stressed during the event "Partnership for Sustainable Development 2020" on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the UN Global Compact.

The Head of Government noted that over the last century, humankind has treated natural resources without understanding how hard it is to replenish them and what the consequences of excessive consumption are.

"That's why nowadays we are facing natural disasters, climate change, pandemics. Unfortunately, humanity has not yet managed to stop or unequivocally reduce excessive consumption, but at least at the global level, the UN has set Sustainable Development Goals," urged Denys Shmyhal.

According to the Prime Minister, it is impossible to solve global problems through the efforts of government agencies alone, but that requires joint efforts of various stakeholders: government, business, citizens, NGOs, etc.

Denys Shmyhal noted that Sustainable Development Goal No. 8 is to promote gradual, comprehensive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all.

"Despite the current challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, we are working with and for people. The Government exerts every effort in this situation," said the Prime Minister.

The Prime Minister thanked businesses and NGOs for their help in the fight against the pandemic: "This is a manifestation of social responsibility and a desire to solve problems together. Our task is to ensure equal rights and opportunities for all categories of citizens, which requires greater efficiency from all of us," stressed Denys Shmyhal.

The Prime Minister also congratulated the winners on the "Partnership for Sustainable Development" award, which was launched by the Ukrainian network 3 years ago, and wished all participants creative and innovative projects.

The UN Global Compact is an initiative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, which mobilizes companies to build their activities and strategies based on the ten universal principles of human rights, labor, the environment and the fight against corruption.
