A meeting on a land irrigation project took place on April 8 under chairmanship of Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal.

The discussion gathered together the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Roman Leshchenko, representatives of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, the Ministry of Finance, the head of Mykolayiv Regional State Administration Vitalii Kim, the head of Odesa Regional State Administration Serhii Hrynevetsky and acting head of Kherson Regional State Administration Serhii Kozyr.

The Prime Minister stressed that the President of Ukraine had set a task to start restoring irrigation systems this year. And the Government, for its part, must, first of all, ensure the prompt transfer of the property complexes from the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources to the supervision of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy.

"Most of the current reclamation and irrigation infrastructure is managed by the State Water Resources Agency. Accordingly, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food, which is responsible for rehabilitating irrigation systems, is currently unable to begin practical work in this direction. A quick solution to this issue will allow the Ministry of Agrarian Policy to start implementing pilot projects to restore irrigation systems this year, thereby helping farmers significantly increase yields," said Denys Shmyhal.

According to the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Roman Leshchenko, irrigation reform is among the main priorities for the Ministry in work: "This year is decisive for us. We understand how to shape the institutional and legislative framework, and we are ready to move according to this plan."

Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Mykhailo Khorev reported that a meeting had been held on the commission of the Prime Minister, which resulted in the development of a roadmap for the transfer of property to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food.

Denys Shmyhal commissioned the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food, the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources to determine specific steps with a clear deadline to ensure the legal and documentary transfer of infrastructure.
