The state considers the energy sector to be one of the most critical after the defence sector. This was emphasised by the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal during the celebrations on the occasion of the Day of Power Engineer.
He noted that the Government is pursuing a comprehensive policy of reinforcing and restoring the energy sector, with work being carried out in five key areas.
"The first is the direct restoration of everything that can be restored. First of all, generation and distribution systems. The second is the accumulation of assistance from partners. The Ukrainian Energy Support Fund has attracted more than EUR 1 billion in pledged and contributed funds," said Denys Shmyhal.
According to him, the third area of work is the energy sustainability of citizens and businesses. In this regard, the Government pays considerable attention to the development of distributed generation and renewable energy sources. The state's efforts are also aimed at protecting energy facilities, many of which already have the second level of protection and this work is ongoing. "But the most effective thing is to strengthen air defence to provide reliable cover for key energy hubs," said Denys Shmyhal.
Importing electricity from Europe is another vector of work. "We have agreed to expand the limits from 1.7 to 2.1 GW. This gives us an additional resource for balancing the power system and covering the deficit," the Prime Minister said.
In his welcoming remarks, Denys Shmyhal noted the heroism and efforts of the energy sector workers, thanks to whom Ukrainians have light and heat.
"russia has fired more than a thousand missiles at Ukrainian energy facilities. For the third winter in a row, some experts are predicting total darkness for Ukraine. But there is light and there will be light. Thanks to you, your hard work, your courage, your steadfastness, your professionalism," Denys Shmyhal addressed the energy sector representatives and presented them with awards for working around the clock, under attack from enemy drones and missiles, undergoing daily risk to their lives.
