In December 2024, the Government adopted a resolution developed by the Ministry of Social Policy jointly with the Ministry for Communities and Territories Development and the Ministry of Finance, which will allow internally displaced persons waiting for compensation for destroyed homes to receive a certificate for the purchase of housing.
At the end of January, the Ministry of Social Policy transferred the first UAH 4.3 billion to the account of the Ministry for Communities and Territories Development to pay for housing certificates for internally displaced persons who have lost their only home (they have no other homes in relatively safe regions of the country) due to russian aggression and are waiting for compensation.
The funds will be used to purchase housing for IDPs through 3,467 housing certificates.
In total, the Ministry of Social Policy will allocate UAH 15 billion for compensation, which will help more than 10,000 families to get their own homes.
“Our task is to support as many citizens as possible who have lost their homes due to russia’s aggression. We are constantly working to expand the range of compensation and support programmes. Our focus is on helping and supporting internally displaced people. Thanks to the UAH 15 billion that the Government has redistributed to support IDPs, we will be able to help 10,000 families find new homes,” said Oleksii Kuleba, Deputy Prime Minister for Restoration of Ukraine and Minister for Communities and Territories Development.
“Thanks to a separate financing programme, thousands of IDPs will be able to solve their most painful problem – their own housing. This is one of the solutions implemented by the Government as part of comprehensive support for internally displaced persons. After all, people who have lost their homes may need financial assistance, psychological support and various types of social services. And we are working to provide assistance to those who need it most,” said Oksana Zholnovych, Minister of Social Policy.
