Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, posted 05 February 2025 11:13

During his working visit to Cairo, Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Vitalii Koval held a meeting with Dr Bahaa El-Ghannam, Director of the Mustaqbal Misr (Future of Egypt) Authority for Sustainable Development.

“Mustaqbal Misr is the largest state agency in Egypt responsible for the procurement of food and other strategic goods. For example, as of December 2024, the agency has secured contracts for the supply of about 1.267 million metric tonnes of wheat,” the Minister said.

The parties discussed building long-term economic relations between Ukraine and Egypt:

    • Increasing exports of Ukrainian products and expanding the range of sales. The Egyptian side is interested not only in grains but also in goods with deep processing.
    • Ukrainian food hub in Egypt. Its creation will help optimise logistics, ensure the production and stable supply of Ukrainian products. This is an important step to ensure food security in the region.
    • Optimisation of financial mechanisms, the possibility of reducing the deferral of payments to Ukrainian exporters, which is important for the stability of supplies.
    • Formation of a working group between Ukraine and Egypt. This will become an effective platform for promptly resolving trade and administrative issues and removing bottlenecks that hinder trade.

Members of the Ukrainian delegation also visited agricultural land, livestock enterprises and industrial zones. Egypt is actively implementing the latest agricultural technologies, and in this context, Ukrainian experience and products can become the basis for the development of their agricultural sector.

Representatives of Mustaqbal Misr were also invited to Kyiv, along with Egyptian businesses and their associations, to learn more about Ukrainian opportunities and find new ways of cooperation.

“Cooperation between Ukraine and Egypt in the field of agribusiness and investment is not only about economic development, but also about the stability of food markets throughout the region. We continue to work on expanding opportunities for Ukrainian farmers and strengthening our presence on the African continent,” said Vitalii Koval.
