Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, posted 06 November 2024 15:56

A vocational school in Kyiv region, which was completely destroyed by the russians in 2022, will be rebuilt with the support of South Korea. The partners are providing USD 14.9 million in funding for this. The cooperation protocol was signed by the Director of the Korea International Cooperation Agency in Ukraine, Taekkeun Lee, Ukraine’s Minister of Education and Science, Oksen Lisovyi, and the Head of the Kyiv Regional State Administration, Ruslan Kravchenko.

South Korea is one of the leading countries in the development of vocational education, so its investment and expertise will help modernise this sector in Ukraine more effectively.

“We continue to seek and attract funds for the reconstruction of educational institutions destroyed by russia. Unfortunately, due to the enemy’s cynical attacks, we have over 350 destroyed educational institutions. However, we see how the world is uniting around Ukraine to help restore justice. And today, we have another international partner approaching this goal,” said Oksen Lisovyi.

What will the rebuilt vocational school be like?

    • Spacious: the new educational building will have an area of 7,900 square meters.
    • Modern: the lyceum will have upgraded educational and production facilities, as well as a library, assembly hall, and gym.
    • Equipped with modern equipment for practicing practical skills.
    • Safe: the vocational school will have a reliable shelter.

A total of 1,200 students will be able to study at the rebuilt school, 400 of them in retraining programs for the adult population.

The reconstruction of the institution will restore the ability to prepare high-quality personnel for the country’s reconstruction in specialties such as construction, electrical production, and automotive transport. Specialists in these fields are trained at the school.

“In total, 245 educational institutions were damaged or destroyed in Kyiv region as a result of the full-scale invasion. We have already restored 209. Significant assistance is provided by international partners. Together we are bringing children back to quality and, importantly, safe education,” added Ruslan Kravchenko.

The South Korean government supports Ukrainian education not only in the area of reconstruction, but also in the area of digitalisation: together with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), it helps create updated courses for the All-Ukrainian School Online platform and provides students with devices for effective online learning.
