For the first time in 5 years, the 9th joint meeting of the Coordination Council for Economic Cooperation with Japan and the Committee for Business Cooperation with Ukraine of the Keidanren Business Federation of Japan was held. The meeting was attended by more than 100 Japanese and 20 Ukrainian companies. The key topic of the event was attracting Japanese companies to invest in Ukraine and work together with Ukrainian companies.
During the visit, Yuliia Svyrydenko, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy of Ukraine, also announced that Ukraine will participate in the World Expo 2025. Yuliia Svyrydenko also thanked Japan for its willingness to financially support Ukraine's participation in the exhibition. Expo 2025 will be held in Osaka, Japan, from 13 April to 13 October next year. More than 160 participating countries and about 28 million visitors are expected to attend the exhibition. For Ukraine, this is an opportunity to draw the world's attention to Ukraine's recovery and investment attraction.
In addition, the President met with Akihiko Tanaka, President of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). Today, the Agency is one of the key partners in supporting economic stability and reconstruction. In particular, it is a joint project with the Ministry for Communities and Territories Development called the Emergency Recovery and Reconstruction Project. During the meeting, the Ukrainian delegation presented specific projects to attract funding for the next year, including in the areas of rebuilding and restoring the energy system, developing distributed generation and solar power plants for critical infrastructure.
"Since the beginning of 2023, Ukraine and Japan have agreed to allocate more than USD 700 million for recovery needs, including projects of the Japan International Cooperation Agency. Thanks to Japan's support, Ukraine has the opportunity to restore critical infrastructure and social facilities in communities. The main priorities for the next year of our cooperation are the restoration of regions and damaged infrastructure, primarily for the heating season, providing the affected regions with the necessary equipment for reconstruction, restoring road and railway infrastructure, and providing housing for IDPs," said Serhii Derkach.
During the visit, the Ukrainian side will also hold meetings with a number of other institutions, including the Japan External Trade Organisation, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.
