At present, no cases of coronavirus have been reported in Ukraine, but the Government is prepared for any scenario. All government services are on high alert. Prime Minister of Ukraine Oleksiy Honcharuk said this at a briefing.

"The Government has taken all the necessary measures designed to immediately prevent the spread of infection and to provide people with the necessary assistance. The Government's task for today is to prevent the introduction of the coronavirus on the territory of Ukraine, " Oleksiy Honcharuk stressed.

Starting from 8 a.m t, temperature screening measures will cover all inbound travellers at the largest checkpoints and airports.

The issues at stake are seven major automobile checkpoints and three train checkpoints across the state border with Poland, Slovakia, Hungary and Romania and eight major airports: Lviv, Chernivtsi, Boryspil, Zhuliany, Odesa, Kharkiv, Dnipro and Zaporizhzhia.

At each checkpoint an epidemiologist works who is equipped with all the necessary means of epidemiological protection: sets of insulated coveralls, goggles and contactless thermometers. And at each point, there is an ambulance.

Oleksiy Honcharuk also noted that the Government is strengthening the system every day to prevent the introduction of coronavirus. To this end, the Government has today appointed Victor Lyashko, the Deputy Minister of Health, as the Chief State Sanitary Doctor.

"From now on, Viktor Lyashko will directly communicate and coordinate the actions of the state authorities and all services in order to organize the work aimed to prevent the introduction of this virus to the greatest possible extent," the Prime Minister explained.

The post of the Chief State Sanitary Doctor allows introducing quarantine in case of introduction of a coronavirus on the territory of Ukraine, as well as to introduce anti-epidemic measures.

According to the Chief State Sanitary Doctor Viktor Lyashko, the first results of testing for coronavirus held in Novi Sanzhary are already known. They are negative. Morning medical examination did not temperature rise.

"We have started checking yesterday and today we continue to check the health of all people at the border entry points with the European Union. Border guards are working together with epidemiologists to conduct temperature screening and, if the suspected virus is detected, people will be taken to emergency hospitals, which are located in the seven largest checkpoints. After that, they will conduct an additional medical examination to make the appropriate decision, " Viktor Lyashko said.

He added that today the Ministry of Health has endorsed a new standard for the provision of medical assistance in case of coronavirus infection by introducing a new algorithm.
