Oleksii Chernyshov: Ukraine will receive support from the EIB for energy efficiency measures

Within the framework of technical support for the implementation of the project Energy Efficiency of Public Buildings in Ukraine, Ukraine and the European Investment Bank will enter into grant agreements in the amount of EUR 2 million. The relevant draft order of the President of Ukraine on the delegation of Ukraine to participate in negotiations with the EIB was supported at a meeting of the Government. This was announced by the Minister for Communities and Territories Development Oleksii Chernyshov.

"Thanks to the signing of these deals, Ukraine will be provided with technical assistance to implement the loan program of the European Investment Bank to finance energy efficiency measures in public buildings. In particular, it is a question of thermal modernization of about 1000 public buildings in Ukraine. These are state and municipal kindergartens, schools, administrative buildings, social and cultural facilities, as well as healthcare facilities," Oleksii Chernyshov said.

Therefore, the agreements provide for an investment grant of EUR 1 million from the resources of the Eastern Europe Energy Efficiency and Environment Partnership ("E5P") for the implementation of a ratified international financing agreement and financing of subprojects related to the improvement of energy efficiency measures, as well as EUR 1 million of grant resource for partial financing of subprojects related to energy efficiency measures, in particular, in hospitals.

It should be noted that in July 2021, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine ratified the agreement with the EIB on a loan of EUR 300 million or the implementation of the project Energy Efficiency of Public Buildings in Ukraine.

The Ministry for Communities and Territories Development also signed new agreements with the EIB and the E5P Fund within the project Energy Efficiency of Public Buildings in Ukraine. We are talking about a grant to Ukraine in the amount of EUR 4 million from the E5P, as well as a grant of technical assistance in the amount of EUR 4 million from the EU Neighborhood Investment Platform (NIP).

We will remind, earlier Minister Olexii Chernyshov reported that the project Energy Efficiency of Public Buildings in Ukraine will expand the capacity of local governments to conduct comprehensive thermal modernization.
