On 31 July, the Ministry for Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development of Ukraine hosted the first meeting of the newly appointed Ambassador of Germany to Ukraine Martin Jäger with the Deputy Prime Minister for Restoration of Ukraine, Minister for Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development Oleksandr Kubrakov.
The parties discussed the progress of reconstruction and joint projects to restore infrastructure and social facilities, the continuation of decentralisation reform and the vision of an updated regional development policy, support for agricultural exports, and preparations for the heating season.
"We are grateful to the German side for the substantial military and humanitarian support provided to Ukraine. It brings our victory closer.
At the same time, we are discussing the continuation and support of reforms in Ukraine. One of the most important reforms for effective reconstruction is the local government reform. We look forward to Germany's further support in this matter, focusing on increasing the capacity of communities in the war and post-war period," the Deputy Prime Minister said.
According to him, the Ministry has initiated a review of the State Regional Development Strategy, seeking to synchronise the recovery plan with the European integration process.
"We have to ensure the balanced development of all communities and territories, prevent the risks of political corruption and ensure a fair distribution of resources. This is one of the many practical steps towards early accession to the EU and we are pleased to feel the support of our German partners on our way to further European integration," commented Oleksandr Kubrakov.
