  • Oleksandr Kubrakov: G7 will support the restoration of Ukraine's transport infrastructure

Following a meeting in Japan, the Transport Ministers of the G7 countries (the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy and Japan) adopted a joint declaration condemning russia's destruction of global supply chains. In particular, this concerns attempts to disrupt the navigation of civilian vessels in the Black Sea and damage to Ukraine's transport infrastructure.

To mitigate the consequences of these actions, the G7, in cooperation with the Donor Coordination Platform, will support the restoration of Ukraine's transport infrastructure and promote the development of alternative logistics routes for Ukrainian exports.

"russia's full-scale invasion has posed logistical challenges not only for Ukraine but for the whole world. Disrupted supply chains, obstruction of navigation in the Black Sea, and artificial blocking of Ukrainian agricultural exports are exacerbating humanitarian problems in the world and causing food prices to rise.

Our global task is to counter russian aggression and support the development of global logistics. We share a common understanding with the G7 countries that support for the restoration and development of Ukraine's transport infrastructure is fundamental. Without functioning transport routes in Ukraine, the global logistics architecture will be at risk.

I thank the G7 Transport Ministers for their unwavering support of Ukraine since the first days of the full-scale invasion. I am confident that by working together we will be able to build an effective logistics model in which russia will have no place and Ukraine will take a central position," said Oleksandr Kubrakov.

The G7 Transport Ministers also agreed to step up international efforts to develop the EU's Solidarity Lanes programme. It provides financial support for projects to develop alternative logistics routes for Ukrainian food exports. This includes the development of the Danube port cluster, infrastructure on the border with the EU and Moldova, etc.

In addition, the G7 Transport Ministers stressed the importance of the stable operation of the Grain Initiative and the development of sustainable transport links between Europe and Asia bypassing russia. In particular, special attention will be paid to the development of the Middle Corridor and the Central Trans-Caspian Transport Network.

It should be noted that the G7 Transport Ministers' Summit is taking place in Japan on 16-18 June with the participation of Deputy Prime Minister for the Restoration of Ukraine Oleksandr Kubrakov. The summit will discuss, among other things, the challenges posed by russia to global logistics and ways to respond to them.
