  • A laptop for every teacher: Ukrainian educators receive 50,000 chromebooks from Google and UNESCO

    Despite the war, Ukrainian teachers continue the educational process and conduct online lessons even from shelters. To stay in touch with students, they need technology. The team of the Ministry of Digital Transformation, jointly with the Ministry of Education and Science, continued work on the Laptop for Every Teacher initiative in 2022. With the support of Google and UNESCO, 50,000 new chromebooks were delivered to educational institutions.

    “We are developing education even in times of war. So that Ukrainian professionals could create innovative solutions around the world. Teachers continue to teach students in shelters even during air raids, conduct online lessons and provide quality education. The Laptop for Every Teacher initiative will allow educators not to interrupt the educational process and stay in touch with students,” said Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov.

    The last batch of about 4,000 chromebooks was received by teachers of Rivne, Kharkiv and Poltava regions.

    As part of the initiative, from October 2022 to January 2023, all planned 50,000 laptops were delivered to the regions of Ukraine as follows:

    • Zhytomyr – 2,918
    • Zakarpattia – 1,124
    • Zaporizhzhia – 2,669

    • Kirovohrad – 971
    • Luhansk – 337
    • Lviv – 2,412
    • Mykolaiv – 1,702
    • Odesa – 2,061
    • Poltava – 1,114
    • Rivne – 2,070
    • Sumy – 1,774
    • Ternopil – 1,536
    • Kharkiv – 5,895
    • Kherson – 761
    • Khmelnytsky – 1,747
    • Cherkasy – 1,442
    • Chernivtsi – 496
    • Chernihiv – 2,273

    Besides, teachers received an opportunity to use some functions of Workspace for Education free of charge until the end of the year. This is a set of tools for online communication between students and teachers, which allow to organize distance learning and make it more productive. In particular, to conduct online lessons, publish and check homework, etc.

    To remind, within the framework of the Laptop for Every Teacher initiative, Ukrainian teachers received more than 62,000 computers in 2021.

    The Laptop for Every Teacher initiative was implemented through agreements between the Ministry of Education and Science and the Ministry of Digital Transformation with Google and under the support of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization UNESCO.
