Yurii Poliukhovych has been appointed as acting Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine. The relevant decision was taken at a meeting of the Government today, March 10, 2020.
“It is of critical importance to ensure the principle of consistency of power working. It is an honor for me to discharge the duties of the Minister. I will exert every effort to provide smooth and proper operation of the Ministry”, said acting Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine.
Yurii Poliukhovych was born on November 1, 1980, in Kostopil, Rivne region.
He took his master's degree in history in 2003 from the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy.
During 2009-2012 he undertook the postgraduate studies at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv and earned the degree of PhD in History. Author of over 40 scientific publications.
Since 2000 – Ukraine’s Representative to the European Association of Mayanists, Wayeb.
During 2014-2016, he was a Research Fellow (postdoctoral fellowship) at the California State University, Chico (USA). Moreover, he worked with Mexico’s National Institute of Anthropology and History.
He has experience working with private companies, in which he engaged in innovation development issues.
2014 – 2016, he was Adviser to the Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine on a voluntary basis. Since 2017 he heads the National Research Foundation public organization.
He is fluent in English, Spanish and classical Chʼoltiʼ language (Maya script).
On September 11, 2019, he was appointed First Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Hanna Novosad. He combines his work at the Ministry of Education and Science with teaching at Taras Shevchenko National University.
