Ministry of Digital Transformation launching 5G technology in Lviv
The Ministry of Digital Transformation team has been working on the implementation of 5G since 2019. The full launch of the technology had been planned for 2022, but due to the full-scale war, priorities changed. However, work on innovations has not stopped and today, a pilot project for 5G technology triggers in Lviv.
"Lviv is the first city in Ukraine to introduce 5G, but soon the pilot launch will be scaled up in Borodianka and Kharkiv, and then to other cities. While the enemy is trying to destroy our infrastructure, we are modernizing it and taking a step into the future, building Ukraine on the basis of the most modern technologies," emphasized First Deputy Prime Minister — Minister of Digital Transformation of Ukraine Mykhailo Fedorov.
The main condition for launching 5G during martial law is the absence of obstacles to the work of the military. The pilot launch was made possible thanks to the coordinated work of the state, mobile operators, and the Armed Forces. As of today, more than 30 base stations supporting 5G technology have already been installed throughout the country.
"In a country that fights for its freedom every day, the launch of innovative technologies would be impossible without the support and participation of the military. That is why I would like to express my gratitude to the Electronic Warfare Directorate and the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine for their professional and constructive cooperation, and to the Lviv Regional State Administration and the Lviv City Council for their assistance in developing the networks," emphasized Stanyslav Prybytko, Deputy Minister of Digital Transformation of Ukraine for Digital Infrastructure Development.
The pilot project shall run until the end of 2026 and will be extended if necessary.
During this time, the compatibility of 5G equipment with military equipment will be tested so that after the end of martial law, the technology is scaled to the whole country.
