On 1 January 2026, an attack by the russian federation has caused damage to port and railway infrastructure.

On the first day of the new year, the rf again launched a massive air attack on Ukraine's civilian transport infrastructure, in particular, port and railway facilities.

During the night air strike, damage was recorded to facilities in the ports of the Odesa region. Fortunately, there were reported no casualties. In the port of Izmail, port berths and equipment were damaged. In the port of Odesa, debris from enemy drones and the blast wave destroyed port equipment, vehicles, and some infrastructure.

"Specialised services and rescue workers are on the scene, cleaning up and assessing the damage. Despite the enemy attacks, the ports are operating, and Ukraine continues to fulfil its food export obligations and ensure the functioning of its logistics infrastructure," emphasised Deputy Prime Minister for the Restoration of Ukraine – Minister for Communities and Territories Development Oleksii Kuleba.

In addition, as a result of enemy shelling, damage to individual railway infrastructure facilities in southern and western Ukraine has been recorded. The destruction affected bridges, stations, and railway production facilities. There were temporary technical complications in some areas, particularly with electricity supply, which were quickly resolved.

Trains are operating as usual, and no rolling stock has been lost.

All relevant services, emergency repair crews and rescue workers are working on site.

These strikes are yet another terrorist act by russia against Ukraine's civilian transport and logistics infrastructure, aimed at undermining economic stability and international supply chains.

The Ministry for Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine is coordinating the actions of all relevant services and monitoring the situation. Seaports and railways continue to operate in compliance with safety requirements.
