Ministry of Energy: Poland and Ukraine’s gas transmission system operators to double guaranteed capacity

The gas transmission system operators of Poland and Ukraine have agreed to temporarily increase the guaranteed capacity in the direction of Ukraine from 6.4 to 12.4 million cubic metres per day. Part of the additional capacity will be offered at the monthly auction for July 2025, scheduled for 16 June.

At the initiative of the Ministry of Energy, the gas transmission system operators conducted a series of technical negotiations and studies to identify potential options for enhancing gas transportation capabilities to Ukraine. This agreement is the result of those efforts.

“We are constantly working on diversifying supplies and expanding existing routes. This is an important decision, as the Polish route is one of the key directions for gas imports to Ukraine,” said Ukraine’s Minister of Energy, German Galushchenko. “The role of this route will only grow, as Poland’s gas transmission system provides access to diversified sources of natural gas, including liquefied gas from around the world.”

To ensure stable capacity on a more permanent basis, Gaz-System is reconstructing the Hermanowice gas measuring station. Earlier in May, the gas transmission system operators agreed to extend the offer of existing guaranteed capacity for the 2025/2026 gas year.
