Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Unity of Ukraine Oleksiy Chernyshov announced that the Council of the European Union had adopted a political decision to extend temporary protection for Ukrainians until 4 March 2027.

“Today’s decision by the EU Council provides Ukrainians residing in European countries with over 20 months of certainty. It is crucial to ensure predictability for people, enabling them to plan their lives and, for those who choose to do so, prepare for their eventual return to Ukraine once conditions allow,” Oleksiy Chernyshov emphasised.

The Deputy Prime Minister noted that this decision followed joint consultations with European partners, including one held on 13 June 2025.

“I had the unique opportunity to represent Ukraine at a working meeting of interior ministers from EU member states. We discussed cooperation and the support that the European Union is currently providing to Ukraine at this critical moment. We thank our European partners for their unwavering support for Ukraine and our people!” Oleksiy Chernyshov stated.

The Deputy Prime Minister added that the temporary protection status was a unique experience for the EU. It was implemented for the first time following russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine as a tool to assist Ukrainian refugees. The status provides access to education, employment, housing, health insurance, and social services for Ukrainian citizens in EU countries.
