  • Ministry of Energy: Another nuclear unit comes out of scheduled maintenance ahead of schedule
Ministry of Energy of Ukraine, posted 23 August 2024 12:58

Today another nuclear unit was connected to the power grid after scheduled repairs and reloading of nuclear fuel, which will add 1,000 MW of capacity, strengthen the stability of the power system and allow no power restrictions to be imposed on consumers.

“The power engineers are doing incredible things in this difficult situation to keep us supplied with electricity and heat. Another nuclear unit has now come out of scheduled maintenance ahead of schedule and in compliance with all safety standards. Its connection will help balance the country’s power system and prevent power shortages,” said Minister of Energy German Galushchenko.

Nuclear power generation is the basis of Ukraine’s energy stability and independence. Currently, nuclear power accounts for about 60% of electricity consumption.

At the end of July, nuclear engineers completed repairs to two nuclear units two weeks ahead of schedule and reconnected them to the grid. This had a significant positive impact on reducing the existing deficit in the power system.
