Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture, in synergy with FAO launch program to provide modular grain storage facilities to Ukrainian farmers
On January 5, applications from agricultural producers will begin to be accepted in the State Agrarian Register for modular grain storage facilities for agricultural producers. The initiative is being implemented by FAO in cooperation with the Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine, with financial support from the Government of Canada.
Agricultural producers from Poltava, Rivne, Volyn, and Zhytomyr regions who are registered in the State Agrarian Register and cultivate between 200 and 1,000 hectares of land actively used for production in these regions are eligible to participate in the program. Selected participants shall receive modular grain storage facilities with a capacity of 1,000 tonnes each, thereby providing storage for up to 100,000 tonnes of grain in total.
The new FAO program aims to support the sustainability of Ukraine's agricultural sector by expanding access to modern grain storage infrastructure, reducing post-harvest losses, and lowering logistics costs. Special priority is given to rye producers and women farmers.
"The grain storage situation is particularly critical for rye producers. The decline in its production poses risks to meeting the country's domestic needs. Adequate storage facilities allow farmers to safely store their harvest, obtain more favorable prices, and independently determine the optimal time to sell their products," emphasized Denys Bashlyk, Deputy Minister of Economy, Environment, and Agriculture of Ukraine.
According to Shakhnoza Muminova, Head of the FAO Office in Ukraine, storing crops locally gives farmers more control over the sale of their products. This is particularly important in conditions of damaged infrastructure and disrupted markets, when farmers are forced to sell their grain immediately after harvest.
Applications to participate in the program are accepted until January 31, 2026, inclusive, through the State Agrarian Register. After reviewing the submitted applications, selected participants shall receive a notification in the SAR with information on further steps and conditions for receiving assistance. Submitting an application does not guarantee the receipt of a grain storage facility, as their number is limited.
