Iryna Vereshchuk, Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine and Minister for Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories of Ukraine, chaired a meeting on the development and implementation of state policy in the field of social protection of veterans.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the Ministry for Veterans' Affairs, the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Social Policy, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Digital Transformation, and the Office of the President.
Iryna Vereshchuk focused on the issue of a comprehensive approach to the socialisation of female and male veterans and addressing their real needs.
The participants of the meeting stated that it is necessary to simplify the procedures for confirming the status of a veteran to the maximum extent possible. This can be done through the active use of digital tools. In particular, it is proposed to digitise documents on injuries, contusions or disabilities resulting from combat operations. This will help speed up the receipt of appropriate benefits from the state.
Attention was also focused on strengthening communication between the authorities that maintain registers of persons discharged from military service for health reasons after 24 February 2022. In particular, the introduction of interaction between the Unified State Register of War Veterans and the relevant information systems of the competent authorities.
In addition, the participants discussed a draft resolution on the procedure for granting the status of a combatant. In particular, it concerns persons who, from 24 February to 25 March 2022, in accordance with the Law of Ukraine "On Ensuring the Participation of Civilians in the Defence of Ukraine", defended our country in connection with russian aggression.
"We must attract all the necessary resources to socialise those returning from the war. People who risked their lives and gave up their health to defend Ukraine deserve fair and dignified treatment. As a state, we must help them successfully adapt to civilian life," the Deputy Prime Minister summed up.
