Dmytro Kuleba outlines four priorities for the Ukrainian delegation at the EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting
The Ukrainian delegation will focus its negotiations and speeches in Brussels on four priority decisions on Ukraine expected this week: the European Council’s decision to open negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the EU, the adoption of a long-term programme of assistance to Ukraine for 2024-2027, the financing of military assistance to Ukraine and the adoption of the 12th package of EU sanctions against russia.
Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba said this on Monday 11 December while talking to journalists at the entrance to the EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting.
“Today I came to Brussels with a very concrete result. Of the four laws that Ukraine should adopt by March 2024 according to the European Commission’s report, three have been passed by the Parliament and signed by the President. The fourth law has already been registered in the Parliament and will be adopted. We expect that the EU will decide to open negotiations on Ukraine’s membership at the European Council summit in a few days,” the Minister said.
According to Dmytro Kuleba, the second priority will be the financing of the Ukraine Facility, which will provide reliable and long-term EU support to Ukraine for 2024-2027.
“Another important issue will be to ensure the financing of the European Peace Facility, so that the European Union can continue to provide Ukraine with the necessary weapons and ammunition, thus strengthening the defence capabilities of our country in its fight against russian aggression,” the Ukrainian Foreign Minister stressed.
The fourth priority will be the adoption of the 12th EU sanctions package to limit russia’s ability to continue its aggression.
