Minister of Foreign Affairs Dmytro Kuleba and Prosecutor General Iryna Venediktova held talks with the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court Karim A.A. Khan, who is on a visit to Ukraine.
The key topic of the talks was the investigation by the International Criminal Court of the most serious international crimes of russians on the territory of Ukraine.
"We are using all legal instruments to bring Russia and its citizens who commit war crimes and crimes against humanity to justice. We are not alone in that - the whole civilized world demands justice. At the initiative of Ukraine, 41 member states of the Rome Statute appealed to the International Criminal Court to initiate a criminal investigation," Dmytro Kuleba stressed.
The Minister noted that during the aggression, the armed forces and armed groups of the russian federation committed numerous war crimes against civilians and crimes against humanity.
"Russian troops are launching rocket and bomb strikes on residential areas of cities, shelling kindergartens, schools, nuclear facilities, humanitarian aid convoys and journalists, and destroying critical infrastructure. We document all these crimes in detail and pass on the facts to the International Criminal Court," the Ukrainian Foreign Minister stressed.
He emphasized that every russian criminal will be held accountable for every lost Ukrainian life: "Russia and its specific criminals will not escape punishment for crimes against Ukraine and Ukrainians."
The parties discussed practical steps to strengthen cooperation between Ukraine and the International Criminal Court in the framework of the criminal investigation.
