Ukraine joined the unified continental European electricity system ENTSO-E a year earlier than planned.
The Minister of Energy of Ukraine German Galushchenko wrote about this on his Facebook page.
"Today, Ukraine has become part of the EU on the energy map. Our power system is now part of the unified electricity system of Europe," said German Galushchenko.
He reminded that the national energy system had been disconnected from the systems of Russia and Belarus on February 24, a few hours before the war.
"It became a coincidence, but behind this coincidence was Russia's desire to hinder Ukraine's European integration, to ban our movement towards the EU. The desire to forbid us to be free and to choose our own future and unions to unite with. They believed that the Ukrainian energy system would fall. That we do not have sufficient capacity to meet the needs of Ukraine in wartime. Russia has seized and bombed our stations, including nuclear stations, exposing the world to the risk of a nuclear catastrophe. But the Ukrainian energy system survived. Wherever possible, our energy companies provided people with electricity - military and civilians, households and businesses," said the Minister.
The UES of Ukraine has proven its reliability and stability by working in isolation for 21 days instead of the planned 3.
"Today we have joined ENTSO-E, a year ahead of schedule. Ukraine and Europe are now a single energy space. The single energy front where we strengthen each other," said German Galushchenko.
He stressed that the significance of this event is difficult to overestimate.
"I am sincerely grateful to our European partners who did everything possible to unite the Ukrainian power system with the European one as soon as possible, as well as to all Ukrainian power engineers for years of hard work and days of resilience, which proved the reliability of our energy system and our will to achieve results", German Galushchenko summed up.
