Denys Shmyhal: Ukraine to receive over EUR 600 million for energy and equipment decommissioned from operation from six European thermal power plants and thermal power stations

First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine – Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal reported on the results of the Ukrainian delegation's work at the meeting of the International Energy Agency, which took place on February 17-18 in Paris.

In particular, the Ukrainian delegation, led by the First Deputy Prime Minister, managed to agree on:

• Additional contributions from partners to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund in the amount of over EUR 250 million.
• A separate aid program from the U.S. through the SPARK project in the amount of USD 276 million.
• Grant support in the amount of EUR 71 million to be provided by France during 2026.

The provision by Latvia, Austria, Finland, Croatia, France, and Germany of decommissioned equipment and its prompt delivery to Ukraine.

“The equipment will be transported and quickly installed. We are talking about at least six decommissioned thermal power plants and combined heat and power plants that will be transferred to Ukraine. This will allow us to quickly restore the operation of key stations destroyed by the enemy. They will provide Ukrainians with heat,” said Denys Shmyhal.

The Minister of Energy also signed a number of important documents with partners:

• A roadmap with France in the field of civil nuclear energy.
• A memorandum with Canada on cooperation in the field of energy.
• Among the agreements reached is the creation of a new aid coordination architecture—a single energy pipeline—to ensure that aid arrives faster, that the range of goods meets Ukrainian needs, and that the efficiency of its use increases.

"Ukraine, together with the Baltic states, Poland, Finland, Denmark, and Norway, has launched a Regional Coordination Platform on Energy Sustainability for the countries of the EU's northeastern flank. We will have a single framework for understanding risks and will respond jointly to numerous challenges," said Denys Shmyhal.

In Paris, the First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine held meetings with representatives of the European Union, the United States, Great Britain, Denmark, Canada, Latvia, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Finland, and France. Denys Shmyhal thanked the partners for their support: “I sincerely thank the Netherlands, the IEA, and France for organizing the events, a united Europe, and all the countries of the world that stand with Ukraine today. We feel your support. Light will prevail!” he emphasized.
