Funds to fight COVID-19 are allocated from three sources: directly from the COVID-19 Response Fund, from the National Health Service of Ukraine, as well as from local budgets, which also help with anti-epidemic measures. This was announced by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal from the rostrum of the Verkhovna Rada during A Question Time for the Government on November 6.

The Prime Minister noted that back in April, the Government had increased the budget of the National Health Service of Ukraine by UAH 16 billion to finance measures to combat the disease in hospitals.

"As of November 5, the National Health Insurance Fund has funded a" coronavirus package" for hospitals to the tune of UAH 7.3 billion," said Denys Shmyhal.

According to the Head of Government, funding to satisfy the needs in the healthcare sector also comes directly from the COVID-19 Response Fund.

"In particular, in the healthcare domain - it is UAH 16.3 billion. A UAH 14.4 billion resource has been allocated directly to the line ministry," stressed Denys Shmyhal.

According to the Prime Minister, the sum worth UAH 6.5 billion were used to increase allowances and surcharges to the salaries of doctors struggling with COVID-19, UAH 4.7 billion - to purchase equipment for the emergency departments of healthcare facilities. UAH 2.7 billion for measures to prevent outbreaks of epidemics, UAH 1.7 billion for the construction, reconstruction and repair of emergency departments and another UAH 0.6 billion for the provision of hospital beds with oxygen systems.

"That is, we use various sources of funding to provide prompt financing of the needs of hospitals, laboratories and increase payments to our doctors," said the Prime Minister.

Denys Shmyhal added that the information about the funds spent is open and transparent, and all figures can be found on the website of the Ministry of Finance in the dashboards, which are constantly updated.
