On Tuesday, November 30, during a working visit to Brussels, Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal discussed security issues with the High Representative of the European Union Josep Borrell.

The Prime Minister stressed that this meeting is an important signal of the European Union's support for Ukraine against the background of another aggravation of security situation by Russia, in particular by using Belarus to escalate the situation with migrants on the border with Poland.

"The EU must be ready to tighten sanctions in case of another Russian aggression. The most effective tool is sectoral sanctions. We hope that the European Council will decide on their further extension," stressed Denys Shmyhal.

The Prime Minister emphasized that Ukraine considers the situation on the Belarusian-Polish border in the context of Russia's strategy to weaken the European Union.

"We appreciate the EU's readiness to help Ukraine. Coordination of our actions is a guarantee of preventing the use of Ukraine's territories in order to destabilize the situation in the EU," the Head of Government noted.

Denys Shmyhal and Josep Borrel also discussed possible dates for the eighth EU-Ukraine Association Council’s meeting and expectations from the sixth Eastern Partnership Summit.
