The Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal and the Head of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Poland Mateusz Morawiecki discussed the deepening of cooperation in the defence and energy sectors, as well as the beginning of new regional formats of partnership during a meeting in Kyiv.
Denys Shmyhal emphasized that Ukraine highly appreciated the strong support of Poland, in particular, practical assistance in strengthening Ukraine's readiness to effectively counter hybrid threats from Russia.
During the meeting, the parties considered ways to deepen cooperation in the energy domain, including further opposition to the implementation of Nord Stream 2. Heads of Government agreed that the project posed a threat to the whole of Europe.
"Energy security issues are traditionally the focus of our bilateral cooperation. We consider it a promising direction to store natural gas of Polish and European companies in underground gas storage facilities of Ukraine, as well as the creation of technical opportunities for gas imports from Poland, in particular from the Polish LNG terminal," said Denys Shmyhal.
Apart from that, the Prime Minister of Ukraine expressed confidence that the deepening of cooperation between the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Polish and Lithuanian military as part of the LITPOLUKRBRIG would be announced in the near future.
"I hope that in the near future we will also manage to officially launch a new regional format of cooperation Ukraine - Poland - UK", said the Head of the Government of Ukraine.
To wind up, Denys Shmyhal thanked Poland for supporting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine and for promoting the implementation of our country's course towards EU and NATO membership.
For his part, the Prime Minister of Poland assured that Warsaw was ready to provide Ukraine with military assistance to increase its defense capabilities. Mateusz Morawiecki also emphasized that a sovereign and democratic Ukraine was in the interests of the whole of Europe, and Poland expressed readiness to provide assistance to Ukraine in the gas, defense, economic stabilization and humanitarian spheres.
