Hennadii Zubko: Energy savings and energy efficiency should become a tendency for Ukraine
Energy-efficiency measures enable the European
Union to reduce energy consumption
up to 50 kW per square
meter. In Ukraine, this figure
is over 200 kW. We have
to bring our norms closer
to the level
of energy consumption in European countries - 50-80 kW per square
meter. This was claimed by
Hennadii Zubko, Vice Prime Minister/
Minister of Regional Development, Construction, Housing and Utilities of
Ukraine during A Question Time for
the Government at the Verkhovna
Rada of Ukraine.
"The technical
and financial support of the
Energy Efficiency Fund, which we
are launching, will become a driving
force to motivate Ukrainians to invest in
energy efficiency, receive financial assistance from the state and
international partners, and hence reduce
energy consumption," the Vice Prime
Minister claimed.
According to him,
one of the
international partners -the
International Finance Corporation will be a member of
the Energy Efficiency Fund Supervisory Board. This is an
important step called to
ensure transparent
work of the
Fund and the development of modern technical
solutions in energy efficiency. "The strategy for
corporate management of the Fund
has already been shaped, the
relevant decrees have been approved
by the Government
and therefore I invite all active
and professional experts to engage
in the selection
competition of the Supervisory Board," Hennadii Zubko stressed.
He thanked the
lawmakers for the support in
adopting the necessary legislative framework for energy
efficiency. "2017 year
became a breakthrough in legislative framework of the
reform, thereby key draft laws
were approved. The Government, together with the
MPs, international partners and experts,
developed and approved decisions that have never
been adopted before in Ukraine.
The main task for this
year is a full-fledged start of
the Energy Efficiency Fund, which is the
main instrument of reform. The
Fund is designed
to bring energy efficiency to the residential
sector, where today are the
biggest losses of energy resources,"
the Vice Prime Minister underscored.
