Denys Shmyhal and Dutch Minister Sjoerd Sjoerdsma agreed to strengthen energy cooperation between Ukraine and the Netherlands

First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine – Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal held an online conversation with Sjoerd Sjoerdsma, Minister of Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation of the Netherlands.

The parties discussed areas of cooperation within the Roadmap on Energy Cooperation, signed at the end of June during URC‑2026 in Gdańsk.

According to Denys Shmyhal, the key priority is strengthening Ukraine’s air defense. He emphasized that this is a necessary condition for protecting not only energy facilities, critical and social infrastructure, but also for saving lives. The Minister of Energy expressed hope for the consolidation of international efforts.

During the online conversation, Denys Shmyhal thanked the Netherlands for the substantial assistance provided to Ukraine’s energy sector.

“Ukraine has already received 310 humanitarian shipments of equipment from the Netherlands, totalling almost 4,400 tonnes, including hundreds of transformers and generators, electrical equipment, cables, and gas-sector equipment. We expect further deliveries,” noted Denys Shmyhal.

 “We highly appreciate the Netherlands’ contribution of around EUR 100 million to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund. We expect a further EUR 20 million from the Kingdom in the near future. I expressed my gratitude to my colleague for his readiness to help mobilise new contributions from other donors as well.”

The First Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Energy invited Sjoerd Sjoerdsma and representatives of Dutch businesses to hold a meeting in Kyiv, stressing that the partnership between Ukraine and the Netherlands is of great value to Ukraine.
