On Tuesday, May 10, Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman held a meeting with Director of the IMF’s European Department Poul M. Thomsen. The parties discussed reforms in Ukraine and further interaction on their implementation.

The Prime Minister thanked the IMF for a systematic and fruitful cooperation with Ukraine. "The support, including support from the IMF, is very important in this rather difficult time for Ukraine. But we also consider our cooperation as the possibility of implementing structural reforms which will enable Ukraine to ensure the transformation from a post-Soviet state to a modern European country," he said.

Volodymyr Groysman noted that the new Government is committed to implementing and accelerating reforms in the country, particularly in the areas of customs, taxation, transparency of government through public appointment of management of state-owned enterprises, improving the system of public procurement as well as conducting public, open privatization.

"We believe implementing reforms to be our internal homework, and the IMF - a strategic partner that helps us overcome this difficult path," he stressed.

Volodymyr Groysman informed that the Government along with a strategic advisory group for supporting reforms in Ukraine co-chaired by Adviser to the President, former Deputy Prime Minister of Poland Leszek Balcerowicz and the head of a group of advisers of the Prime Minister of Ukraine, Slovakia's former Deputy Prime Minister and former Finance Minister Ivan Miklos is working on the development of an operational plan which will be presented soon.

In his turn, Director of the IMF’s European Department Poul M. Thomsen welcomed the formation of a new Government and assured of the IMF’s readiness to support Ukraine in carrying out necessary changes.
