"The Government of Ukraine strongly demands to ensure a market-based, competitive and transparent approach to tariffs setting," Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk stated at a meeting of the crisis energy staff on Monday, August 3.

He reminded that the law warrants that tariff levels are set not by the Cabinet of Ministers, but by a separate independent body - the National Energy and Utilities Regulatory Commission, "which together with licensees is responsible for the accuracy of tariffs setting": "I as Prime Minister is interested only in one thing – a tariff must be real, market driven and transparent, because it is included in bills for the citizens."

The Prime Minister stressed the need to determine the pricing structure for coal. Arseniy Yatsenyuk appealed to Western partners to help the NEURC define approaches setting the coal price":" Today, there is no transparent system of coal pricing in the country, and everyone is manipulating the figures. This directly affects the tariffs."
