PM: Government allocates funds for more than 600 terminals for roll-out of biometric passports

In the framework of the Ukraine’s implementation of an action plan on visa liberalization with the EU, the Government of Ukraine allocates UAH 150 million for the purchase of more than 600 terminals for rolling out biometric international passports. Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk said this at a government meeting on Wednesday, November 5.

Arseniy Yatsenyuk has stressed that the Government of Ukraine expects to receive the next EU mission for the verification of the implementation by Ukraine of the action plan on visa liberalization with the EU.

He has noted that he held a conversation on this issue with the then President of the European Commission Jose Manuel Barroso: "I would like to thank Mr. Barroso for the work that we did together. It was ten years of active European work."

Arseniy Yatsenyuk said that he was dissatisfied with the work of "the State Migration Service regarding the fulfillment of the Government's order as to the roll-out of biometric passports":"35 000 passports a month means queues in each region to obtain a passport."

According to Arseniy Yatsenyuk, the Government of Ukraine has decided to allocate UAH 150 million for the purchase of more than 600 terminals for the roll-out of biometric passports: "We have two months. Actually, we will put an in appropriate terminal in every district, and the system should work by the end of January."

The Prime Minister has also noted that the Government will consider the creation of public television and radio broadcasting in Ukraine.
