O. Sych: Government to receive from the Global Fund $ 130 million to fight against HIV/AIDS

On November 28, Ukraine will submit to the Global Fund to fight AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria package of documents for the financing of programmes for the prevention of socially dangerous diseases in the years 2015-2017. The grant will be $130,5 million. This was stated by Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine Oleksandr Sych during the meeting of the National Council for combating tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS, on October 28, 2014.

The relevant documents have been submitted and agreed by the members of the National Council and will be soon submitted to the Global Fund to obtain a final decision. A grant from the Global Fund will help Ukraine efficiently carry out the fight against HIV / AIDS and other socially dangerous diseases, the official believes.

I wish Ukraine continued being a leader among the countries of Eastern Europe and Central Asia in combating HIV/AIDS,Oleksandr Sych noted.

Moreover, the Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine noted other achievements of the Ukrainian Government in international cooperation on the issues of HIV/AIDS, in particular in connection with participation of the Ukrainian delegation to the 34th session of the coordinating Board of the joint United Nations programme on HIV/AIDS in July 2014, as well as high-level meetings Eradication of the AIDS epidemic among adolescents in the framework of the 69th session of the UN General Assembly in September 2014.

The official praised the recent adoption by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine of the National target social program of counteraction to HIV/AIDS in 2014-2018. “It’s the great happiness that we have adopted this program in the last days of the work of the Parliament, he added.

In the framework of the event, members of the National Council discussed the elimination of the State service for combating HIV/AIDS and other socially dangerous diseases and the creation of the appropriate division within the Health Ministry of Ukraine, was briefed on the status of the procurement and the planned delivery in the regions high quality anti-TB and antiretroviral drugs, reports the principal recipient (ACO "all-Ukrainian network of people living with HIV", the state institution "Ukrainian center of control for socially dangerous diseases of the Health Ministry, ICF "International HIV/AIDS Alliance in Ukraine") on the results of the implementation in the first half of 2014 Global Fund grants, considered the problems of providing medicines to patients in Crimea and the ATO area, etc.
