Ukraine and Japan to carry out repairs of WWTP Bortnicheskoy
At a meeting of
the Government members of the Cabinet have agreed on some issues as to the preparation
of the project of reconstruction of buildings of wastewater sewage and building
production lines for processing and disposal of sludge of WWTP
Bortnicheskoy. The Cabinet of Ministers has adopted a
relevant resolution on 23 April. It
also considered and approved a draft letter of the Ukrainian Government to the
Government of Japan concerning further cooperation on the project of repairs WWTP Bortnicheskoy.
Relevant
decisions were preceded by a series of bilateral meetings between Ukrainian and
Japanese sides in which the relevant intention of cooperation was declared, and
its terms were agreed. In
particular, First Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine Vitalii
Yarema and Vice Prime Minister – Minister for Regional
Development, Construction, Housing and Utility of Ukraine Volodymyr
Hroisman met with Director-General of the Middle East
and Europe Department of Japan International
Cooperation Agency Mr. Shinichi Yamanaka, they discussed the project of
reconstruction of wastewater treatment facilities and sewage construction
process line for processing and disposal of sludge of Bortnicheskoy
WWTP.
Mr. Shinichi
Yamanaka thanked the officials for their cooperation in the project of reconstruction
Bortnicheskoy WWTP. He
said that the Japanese side has held several meetings with representatives of
relevant ministries and agencies involved in the project, and the Prime
Minister of Japan at the G7 summit informed the international community that
the Government of Japan intended to finance the project worth
¥110 billion, which is equivalent to $ 1.1
billion. The
Director-General of the Middle East and Europe Department of Japan International
Cooperation Agency emphasized that loan conditions are very interesting and
profitable for the Ukrainian side, including credit granted for 40 years at 0.1
per cent and with the possibility of deferred payment for 10 years. In
addition, the conditions of the loan also provide for the use of the newest Japanese
technology and equipment.
First Vice Prime
Minister Vitalii Yarema has
assured the Japanese side that the Ukrainian Government will be to assist the
project.
According to Vitalii Yarema, the Ukrainian
side is extremely interested in the program of complex reconstruction of Bortnicheskoy WWTP, thus, will do
its best to implement it as soon as possible.
In turn, Vice Prime Minister Volodymyr Hroisman informed that a number of meetings have been already held with all stakeholders and "clearly defined steps that we have to make in order to approximate the implementation of the project." "We believe that this project is very interesting. We understand the responsibility that lies on the Ukrainian side and assure that the Ministry for Regional Development, Construction, Housing and Utility is and will be a reliable partner for its implementation", he added.
