Denys Shmyhal discusses support for Ukraine's energy sector with UNDP Administrator Alexander De Croo ahead of winter

On the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly, First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine – Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal held a meeting with UNDP Administrator Alexander De Croo. The parties discussed the key needs of Ukraine's energy sector ahead of winter and agreed on further joint steps.

In particular, Denys Shmyhal noted that, with UNDP's assistance, equipment for over 500 MW of distributed, highly flexible generation capacity has already been delivered to Ukraine. Ukraine is counting on partners' support to ensure its rapid installation and commissioning.

"We highly value UNDP’s help in procuring critical equipment for Ukrainian energy companies; we look forward to the timely delivery of 12 power transformers," said the Minister of Energy.

An important area of cooperation is the energy resilience of communities. The parties discussed tools for expanding municipalities' capacities through grant and concessional financing mechanisms, as well as attracting private investment in their independent generation and energy infrastructure.

"We are grateful to UNDP for its ongoing support and and reliable partnership with Ukraine. Since the start of the full-scale invasion, the UNDP has mobilized approximately USD 718 million in international aid to restore and strengthen Ukraine’s energy networks," Denys Shmyhal emphasized.
