It is important for Ukraine to unite the world’s efforts around President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s Peace Formula to ensure that every point of this formula is implemented. This was stated by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal during the Fourth Summit of the International Crimea Platform.
“It is important for us to continue to put pressure on russia through sanctions in sectors of particular economic importance to the aggressor, namely in the energy, military, financial and IT sectors. This list should include metallurgy, nuclear and chemical industries, and agriculture. Modern technologies have no place in russia. It is necessary to block all possible schemes that the kremlin is trying to build to avoid sanctions,” the Head of Ukrainian Government emphasised.
According to the Prime Minister, peace and stability in the world can only be achieved by reducing russia’s economic capacity to finance the war and produce the weapons that are killing the Ukrainian people.
“An integral element of a just peace is also the punishment of the aggressor and the reconstruction of Ukraine. These elements are interconnected, because it is the frozen russian assets that should become the main resource for Ukraine’s recovery,” said Denys Shmyhal, adding that the liberated Ukrainian Crimea will become one of the key centres of gravity for post-war reconstruction.
The Prime Minister reminded that last year, at the Third Summit of the International Crimea Platform, he announced five points for the restoration of the Crimean peninsula: turning Crimea into one of the best tourist pearls in Europe; including the peninsula in the network of key transport corridors connecting Europe and Asia, North and South; building energy infrastructure with a special focus on wind and solar energy, as well as offshore hydrocarbon production; reviving local agricultural potential and winemaking; and turning Crimea into a powerful IT cluster.
“All these areas remain relevant today. But I want to add just one item to this list. This is joining the EU and NATO structures along with the rest of Ukraine. I am confident that this ambitious goal will definitely become a reality,” the Prime Minister stressed.
The Head of Government thanked everyone who is supporting Ukraine today. According to him, this is an investment in a safe and peaceful Europe and an investment in a world order where borders and international law are respected.
“We have to remember that as long as russia continues this bloody aggression and controls part of the Ukrainian territories, the world cannot feel safe.
We need your unity, your determination and your help to achieve a just peace together. A peace where the aggressor is held accountable for its crimes and Crimea returns home to Ukraine,” said Denys Shmyhal.
