Ministry of Health of Ukraine, posted 05 August 2024 18:15

In more than two years of full-scale war, russia has been systematically attacking and bombing not only civilian infrastructure but also healthcare facilities. In particular, hospitals, outpatient clinics, polyclinics, maternity wards, etc.

As of the beginning of August 2024, the enemy has already damaged 1,642 medical facilities and destroyed 214 more. The largest damage was done to healthcare facilities in Kharkiv, Donetsk, Mykolaiv, Kyiv, Chernihiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions. It is currently impossible to obtain complete information on the extent of damage to medical facilities in the temporarily occupied territories.

The russians also damaged 188 ambulances, destroyed 261 and seized 125 ambulances.

However, despite the war, providing Ukrainians with quality and affordable healthcare services remains one of the Government’s priorities. The Ministry of Health, together with its partners, continues to work to restore the medical infrastructure. Thanks to the restoration and reconstruction of facilities, doctors continue to provide medical services, and patients have unimpeded access to the necessary medical care.

Thus, 523 medical facilities were fully restored and another 361 were partially restored. Most of the facilities have been restored in Mykolaiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Kyiv, Kharkiv and Chernihiv regions. These are medical facilities in the territories liberated from occupation, as well as those that have suffered minor damage: broken windows, roofing, facade damage, etc. The work to rebuild the medical facilities will continue.
