The full-scale brutal war unleashed by russia against Ukraine has been going on for more than two years. The enemy has been systematically attacking and bombing not only civilian infrastructure but also healthcare facilities. In particular, hospitals, outpatient clinics, polyclinics, maternity wards, etc.
As of mid-July 2024, russia has already damaged 1,636 medical facilities and destroyed another 214. The greatest losses were incurred in medical facilities in Kharkiv, Donetsk, Mykolaiv, Kyiv, Chernihiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions. It is currently impossible to obtain complete information on the extent of damage to medical facilities in the temporarily occupied territories.
The russians also damaged 182 ambulances, destroyed 261 and seized 125 ambulances.
Despite the war, providing Ukrainians with quality and affordable healthcare services remains one of the most important areas of the Government work. The Ministry of Health and its partners are working to restore the medical infrastructure. Thanks to the restoration and reconstruction of facilities, doctors are able to continue providing medical services, and patients have unimpeded access to the necessary medical care.
To date, 524 healthcare facilities have been fully restored and 361 have been partially restored. Most facilities have been restored in Mykolaiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Kyiv, Kharkiv and Chernihiv regions. These are medical facilities in the territories liberated from occupation, as well as facilities that have suffered minor damage: broken windows, roofing, facade damage, etc. The work to restore the medical facilities will continue.
