  • Situation in energy system as of 15 July
Ministry of Energy of Ukraine, posted 15 July 2024 11:25

446 settlements are without power due to bad weather; consumer restrictions are applied throughout the day

    GENERATION, TRANSMISSION, CONSUMPTION

Due to massive russian shelling, the power system is experiencing a capacity shortage. Over the past 24 hours, Ukraine has additionally engaged emergency assistance from Poland and Slovakia to partially cover it. Last night, Ukraine engaged emergency electricity supplies from Poland. Ukraine’s power system also received surplus power from the Polish power system.

As of today, hourly blackout schedules are planned to be in effect from 0:00 to 24:00. If the situation changes, the information will be updated.

Due to the heat wave in Ukraine, electricity consumption may increase, in particular due to the active use of air conditioners. We urge everyone to use electricity sparingly. This enables power engineers to keep the power system more stable.

No power cuts will be imposed on critical infrastructure companies and companies that import more than 80% of their electricity in accordance with a government decree.

The main reason for the electricity restrictions is the enemy’s attacks on the energy infrastructure and the negative consequences of these attacks.

    CONSEQUENCES OF SHELLING

In Dnipropetrovsk region, a high-voltage overhead line was disconnected as a result of shelling, which cut off power to a substation and local industry. During the inspection of the substation, a fire was discovered, which was later extinguished.

In Chernihiv region, overhead lines were disconnected as a result of shelling, which cut off power to consumers. Power engineers partially restored the power supply, but due to repeated strikes that continued throughout the day, consumers were cut off again.

In the northern region, the hostilities caused the disconnection of a high-voltage overhead line, which led to a power outage at a substation and household consumers.

In Zaporizhzhia region, a rocket attack caused a wire break on an overhead line. The line is now back in operation.

In Donetsk region, a high-voltage overhead line was disconnected due to hostilities, which caused a substation to lose power. Consumers were not disconnected.

    STATE OF THE GRID

An overhead line was briefly disconnected in Zhytomyr region. As a result, substations, household consumers, and local industry were cut off from power. All consumers have been supplied with power.

In the southern region, a high-voltage overhead line and a substation were out of service. The inspection revealed traces of grassroots fires caused by the heat. In addition, a renewable energy facility was disconnected due to damage to equipment at the substation.

In the western region, a high-voltage overhead line was switched off twice as a result of a thunderstorm. The line is now back online.

In Zakarpattia region, a high-voltage substation was out of service due to bad weather. Household consumers in Zakarpattia and Lviv regions and the railway were without power (trains were disrupted). All consumers have been supplied with power.

In the eastern region, high-voltage overhead lines were switched off, and renewable energy facilities briefly reduced their output. Inspections revealed traces of grassroots fires.

In Kharkiv region, an overhead line was disconnected. Substations and connected household consumers, as well as the railway, were de-energised (no train traffic was disrupted). The power supply has been restored.

    POWER OUTAGES FOR CONSUMERS

Due to severe weather conditions, 446 settlements in Kyiv, Chernihiv, Zhytomyr, Rivne, Lviv and Ternopil regions were without power supply in the morning. A total of 495 settlements remain without power due to hostilities and technical disruptions. Power companies have supplied electricity to 11,522 consumers who were cut off as a result of the hostilities.

    SITUATION AT ZNPP

The water level in the cooling pond is 14.95 metres. This is enough to meet the plant’s needs.

    IMPORT/EXPORT

For the current day, imports from Poland, Slovakia, Romania and Hungary are forecasted in the total amount of 25,126 MWh and a maximum capacity of 1,336 MW. There are no exports and no plans for exports.
