Yulia Svyrydenko: Government earmarks an additional UAH 46.5 million to complete the modernization of school canteens
The Government continues to systematically upgrade school infrastructure as part of the school meal reform.
The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has approved a decision to allocate an additional UAH 46.5 million in subsidies to local communities to complete the modernization of school cafeterias. Funding will be provided to 19 facilities where work began in 2025 and has already reached a high level of completion—at least 60%.
This decision will allow for the prompt completion of these projects and the swift opening of modern cafeterias for schoolchildren.
“A modern school cafeteria provides safe conditions for daily meals and a dignified space within the school. A state that cares for its children is investing in its future. And high-quality school meals are an important part of this investment,” emphasized Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Svyrydenko.
In total, about 20% of school cafeterias have already been modernized as part of the reform. Of these, 188 were funded by state subsidies. Additionally, over 1,500 school cafeterias have been renovated using local budgets and having support from international partners.
Currently, school meals are provided for students in grades 1–11 in frontline communities, as well as for students in grades 1–4 in other regions of the country.
“Our goal is to provide hot lunches to all schoolchildren across the country starting September 1 of this year,” the Head of Government emphasized.
