Ministry of Social Policy, Family and Unity in synergy with UNFPA strengthen cooperation in combating violence
The Ministry of Social Policy, Family, and Unity of Ukraine hosted a meeting between First Deputy Minister Liudmyla Shemelynets and representatives of the United Nations Population Fund in Ukraine (UNFPA), led by UNFPA Deputy Representative James Okara Wanyama.
Liudmyla Shemelynets thanked the partners for their consistent support of Ukraine in preventing and combating gender-based violence, as well as in promoting equal rights and opportunities for both women and men.
During the meeting, the parties discussed key areas for further cooperation. In particular, discussions focused on support for the elaboration of the State Program on Preventing and Combating Domestic and Gender-Based Violence through 2030, as well as the implementation of the updated Plan within the Cooperation Framework between the Government of Ukraine and the UN on Combating Conflict-Related Sexual Violence for 2026–2027.
“We are sincerely grateful to UNFPA for its ongoing support and fruitful cooperation in the field of countering violence. In the context of war, this issue has become particularly acute—both in terms of domestic violence and conflict-related gender-based violence. That is why your support and expert assistance are extremely valuable to us—in strengthening systemic solutions, developing services for survivors, and shaping effective state policy in this area,” the Deputy Minister emphasized.
Particular attention was paid to resuming cooperation on the development of a case management system for handling cases of violence, as a tool for providing effective assistance to victims.
Liudmyla Shemelynets also informed the partners about the Ministry’s work on draft regulations regarding the payment of interim reparations to victims of conflict-related sexual violence.
On the outcomes of the meeting, the parties agreed to strengthen coordination within existing initiatives and expand partnership to implement effective solutions in the field of victim protection.
