Today, the Verkhovna Rada adopted the Law "On ensuring the functioning of the Ukrainian language as a state language" (No. 5670-d). The bill was supported by 278 MPs.
"I want to declare responsibly that the Cabinet of Ministers is ready to abide by all the norms that involve the participation of the Government in ensuring implementation and budget support of the law on ensuring the functioning of the Ukrainian language as a state language", said Deputy Prime Minister Viacheslav Kyrylenko before the voting in Parliament. Moreover, he emphasized that the Government expresses commitment to submit for the consideration of the Verkhovna Rada within six months a draft law "On the protection of languages of indigenous peoples and national minorities" in accordance with one of the norms of this law.
It should be noted that in 2018, the government interagency working group chaired by Viacheslav Kyrylenko supported the bill "On ensuring the functioning of the Ukrainian language as a state language" (No. 5670-d), which was adopted by the Verkhovna Rada in the first reading in the fall of 2018. In the second reading, more than two thousand amendments were considered. The law determines the peculiarities of the use of the state language in television and radio broadcast, in print media, consumer services and in other areas.
