  • Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food together with the EU experts kicked off implementation of European requirements for fruit jams and similar products.

    On April 24, Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine in synergy with the EU project "Support to Agricultural and Food Policy Implementation" held the round table "Implementation of European requirements for fruit jams and similar products. Attendees were representatives of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food, State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection, the EU Project, industry associations, field-oriented producers and importers.

    The event was aimed to enable participants to get acquainted with a comparative analysis of European requirements and national legislation on the production of fruit jams and similar products, as well as to find common solutions for the implementation of European requirements for Ukrainian jam products. In particular, in order to develop a normative act on new requirements for such products, it is necessary to analyze the technological features of production processes, to identify possible risks that may arise from the implementation of European requirements in national legislation, and to establish communication with stakeholders (producers, importers, industry associations )

    During the meeting the participants were informed about the basic principles of the European system for the regulation of the production and trade of jams, which are based on Council Directive 2001/113/EC of 20 December 2001 on fruit jams, jellies, marmalades and sweetened chestnut purée intended for human consumption.

    According to the results of the meeting, the sides decided that all parties concerned will send proposals for new requirements for the production of jam products to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine. After consideration of the said proposals by the experts of the Ministry, there will be held the next meeting at which the first draft of the draft requirements will be presented.
