The land market is a driving force for communities and businesses. Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal stressed in a statement at the All-Ukrainian Forum "Ukraine 30. Land" on May 25.

The Head of Government reminded that the Verkhovna Rada had recently adopted draft laws №2194 and №2195, which were one of the last steps towards the launch of a full-fledged land market in Ukraine. Also yesterday during the Forum, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed one of the laws.

"We have crossed the Rubicon. The lifting of the moratorium has become a truly historic event for Ukraine," said Denys Shmyhal.

The Prime Minister noted that the beneficiaries will be not only landowners and farmers, but also Ukrainian communities.

"According to the calculations of the Ministry of Economy, in recent years, 4 million hectares of land with an estimated value of about $ 20 billion have been transferred to the ownership of communities. This is an extraordinary step for regional development and decentralization reform, which we are actively introducing," the Prime Minister said.

According to Denys Shmyhal, land reform is, first of all, about restoring historical justice, stimulating the development of agriculture, decentralization and increasing the role of communities in taking important decisions.

"The opening of the land market will allow us to make the Ukrainian agricultural sector a real locomotive of economic development. I believe that this is a historic step for our state, which should have been taken several decades ago, but will be made by the team of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on the 30th anniversary of Independence," the Prime Minister said.

The Prime Minister added that the Government sets land reform as a constant priority of its work.
