From global solidarity to coordinated action in support of Ukraine: Denys Uliutin announces the launch of the Diaspora Alliance
On December 15, during an event in Kyiv marking International Migrants Day, Minister of Social Policy, Family and Unity Denys Uliutin announced the launch of the Diaspora Alliance for Ukraine's Recovery, a global platform for coordinated cooperation between the state, the Ukrainian diaspora, and international partners.
The event brought together representatives of the Ukrainian Government, the diplomatic corps, the governments of countries hosting Ukrainians, international organizations, Ukrainian diaspora associations, civil society, and the expert community.
“Today, millions of our citizens live outside Ukraine, working, studying, and integrating into the communities of their host countries. At the same time, they remain deeply connected to Ukraine through their families, financial support, volunteering, expertise, and advocacy for our interests in the world,” the Minister noted.
Denys Uliutin emphasized that state policy regarding Ukrainians abroad goes beyond the protection of rights and covers issues of long-term social support, demographic stability, and the restoration of Ukraine's human potential. According to him, work in this area is based on supporting and protecting Ukrainians abroad, integrating them without losing their connection to Ukraine, and involving them in the restoration of the state.
"It is in this context that we are launching the Diaspora Alliance for Ukraine's Recovery, a coordination tool designed to transform the solidarity of Ukrainians abroad and international partners into coordinated, concrete, and long-term actions aligned with Ukraine's national priorities. In addition, the Alliance aims to reduce duplication of initiatives and increase the effectiveness of support programs," the Minister emphasized.
The Alliance's work is expected to cover economic cooperation, social cohesion, and community development, the return and reintegration of Ukrainians, as well as the systematic collection of data and research necessary for effective coordination and policy-making.
In her speech, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Mariana Betsa emphasized: "Ukrainians who were forced to flee their homes due to russian aggression, both within the country and abroad, remain part of the Ukrainian nation. Our goal is to ensure that every Ukrainian feels the support of the state and that the assistance provided by the global Ukrainian community contributes to the recovery of Ukraine. Countries that have provided shelter and international partners, among which the activities of the International Organization for Migration are of particular importance, play an important role in supporting these processes."
The Deputy Minister expressed her sincere gratitude to the states and international organizations for their consistent support of Ukraine and Ukrainians abroad.
The event was organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and the Ministry of Social Policy, Family and Unity of Ukraine with the support of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW), and the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
