Today, 16 September, the Government decided to join the Equal Pay International Coalition (EPIC), which brings together governments, employers 'and employees' organizations, UN agencies, the private sector, international organizations, civil society and research institutions. Ukraine has long sought to bridge the pay gap for equivalent work, given that such a gap in early 2020 in Ukraine was 22% not in favor of women.
"I believe that the unconditional priority of the Government should be to ensure fair pay for all Ukrainian citizens. That is why in July of this year I initiated the launch of the process of Ukraine's accession to the Equal Pay International Coalition. And today's decision of the Government is an important step in this direction, opening up new opportunities in the development of a modern competitive economy and is aimed to positively affect the well-being of Ukrainian families," said Olha Stefanishyna, Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine.
The Equal Pay International Coalition is an international initiative launched at the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly on September 18, 2017, in New York (USA). EPIC accelerates progress towards gender pay equity by raising awareness, sharing knowledge, embracing innovation and scaling up initiatives and programmes that have already yielded positive results. From Ukraine, the Coalition was joined by the Confederation of Employers of Ukraine, Joint Representative Body of All-Ukrainian associations of trade unions at the national level, and the Kyiv Institute of Gender Studies.
