Ministry of Energy: Ukraine launches 200 MW energy storage complex
Ukraine has launched its largest energy storage complex with a capacity of 200 MW, built by DTEK in partnership with the American company Fluence Energy B.V.
The complex comprises six facilities in Kyiv and Dnipropetrovsk regions, constructed in a record-breaking one-year period. The project required an investment of EUR 125 million.
In total, the system can store 400 MWh of electricity, sufficient to power 600,000 households for two hours.
Minister of Energy Svitlana Grynchuk attended the opening ceremony and highlighted the complex’s importance for the country’s energy resilience.
“Each time the enemy tries to destroy our infrastructure, it only accelerates our progress towards the future. The launch of this complex is a practical step towards strengthening Ukraine’s energy resilience. The new capacities enhance the system’s reliability and flexibility, reduce the risk of emergency outages, and enable effective preparation for the winter period. They also open new opportunities for the development of renewable energy and the decentralisation of the energy system,” the Minister emphasised.
The complex provides Ukraine with additional capabilities for balancing the energy system and regulating frequency, which is particularly crucial given the increasing share of renewable energy sources and the ongoing challenges of war. The new storage systems ensure more stable energy supplies for citizens and businesses.
The launch of the complex is also a practical step towards implementing the National Renewable Energy Action Plan up to 2030.
The Minister expressed gratitude to the DTEK group and Fluence for their advanced technologies and support, stressing that the project’s goal is not only to restore what was destroyed but also to build a modern, resilient, and “green” energy system in Ukraine.
