Government simplifies procedure for obtaining category CE driving licence

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has simplified the procedure for individuals to obtain a Category CE driving licence (lorry with trailer).

The relevant resolution, “On Amending Clause 9 of the Regulation on the Issuance of Driving Licences and Admission of Citizens to Operate Vehicles,” prepared by the Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture was adopted at a regular Government meeting.

The resolution eliminates the mandatory requirement for one year of driving experience. This will enable the swift recruitment of new drivers for lorries with trailers, removing the need to wait for the formal completion of the base category driving period. Requirements for professional training, education, and examinations remain unchanged.

Furthermore, simplifying these procedures will improve access to the profession for young people under 25 and women, enhance the state’s logistical capabilities, and support the development of the road transport sector in line with European standards. It will also optimise training programmes in vocational education institutions and training centres.

The document aims to harmonise national legislation with European Union law in the field of road transport.
